The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) is a statutory levy board, funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain to help the industry succeed in a rapidly changing world. We want to create a world-class food and farming industry, inspired by and competing with the best.
Agriculture needs to do two things when it comes to Climate Change; mitigate against it but also adapt to it. And it has to do that whilst delivering multiple public goods, not least, our food.
Change is happening faster than ever. The effects of global warming on our climate is impacting farmers more than most, with extreme weather becoming more and more frequent. We have a responsibility to get farmers ready for the change that’s coming and help them to not only survive but thrive.
We also need to make sure that Farmers are recognised for the good work they are doing in terms of mitigation. It’s not just about emissions. Agriculture plays an important role in managing carbon stocks and carbon removal (including sequestration).
One area we are championing is data-driven sustainability because we know accurate farm metrics can empower climate action. Our Environment Baselining Pilot – an industry first project - is going to provide farmers with unique data and insight that can help them drive the change needed to mitigate against climate change and forge a resilient path towards becoming net zero by 2050.
There are exciting opportunities for those willing to grasp them. We want to unite the whole industry and bring people together to collaborate, innovate and drive change. Come and chat to us to find out more.
