text_color="" animation_type="" animation_direction="left" animation_speed="0.3" animation_offset=""] Environment Bank is setting up Habitat Banks across England in response to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) being mandated in law. This means we are leasing parcels of land throughout England to create rich biodiverse habitats, which we contract back to the farmer or landowner to manage. We then use these habitats to enable organisations to meet their BNG obligations. Our scheme is already providing a new income stream to many. We are well on our way to establishing over 4,000 hectares of habitats across England over the next few years. Typically, we look to create species-rich grassland, woodland, wetland, mixed scrub or rewilding sites on land where this is a significant opportunity for biodiversity uplift. We are currently looking for land upwards of 10 hectares, for example, old pasture and scrubland or underperforming arable land. It can be across the acreage and doesn’t have to be in one block. We contract the management of the Habitat Bank back to the farmer or landowner, and our team of ecologists fully supports this throughout the full term of the agreement. Importantly, we are not looking to take land used to grow food out of production, and you can still produce arable crops whilst participating in a Habitat Bank creation project. Equally, your Habitat Bank could be grazed or cropped for hay or sit alongside your tourism enterprise. We will work with you to establish habitats that work for you and create the best outcomes for nature in your location. Farmer, Toby Diggens, is already establishing a Habitat Bank with Environment Bank on his farm in Devon, speaking about the project, he said; “This partnership allows us to guarantee an income on land which we would have to conventionally farm very hard to see any profit. It also works alongside my farming business, allowing our herd of Devon Ruby Reds to roam over the grasslands they were bred to graze on without risk to the biodiversity uplift, in fact, they help.”         Payments start immediately upon lease signing, and we cover all costs for establishing and managing the Habitat Bank, extending to legal and tax advice where appropriate. Unlike other BNG schemes, you don’t have to manage the complex implementation process or take any risks of the scheme failing – that all sits with us.
