Your electric questions answered

Is an electric UTV cheap to run?

Electric SXSs can save money in the long term thanks to their fewer moving parts and the fact they can be refuelled/recharged with electricity at home. With petrol and diesel prices remaining at an all-time high, using an electric vehicle can be a cheaper alternative to run. The RANGER XP Kinetic Premium offers a range of 45 miles (70 kilometres). Alternatively, if you are worried about the range, the Polaris RANGER XP Kinetic is available in an Ultimate trim providing you with up to 80 miles (130 kilometres) of range.

How far can an electric UTV go?

How far an electric UTV goes is dependent on how you use it and the accessories you may have installed, for example, an electric heater for the winter months will use up more of your battery charge as it too also needs to be powered and as a result, the time your electric vehicle will run for will be reduced. The Polaris RANGER XP Kinetic is available in two model variants, the Premium trim offers 45 miles of range, which is more than enough for the average rider but for those that want extra peace of mind, you can also choose the RANGER XP Kinetic Ultimate. The RANGER XP Kinetic Ultimate has a range of up to 80 miles.*

Where can I charge my electric UTV?

Where you can charge an electric UTV varies by the specification of your vehicle, for the most accurate information the best place to find all charging information is in the Owner’s manual. The Polaris RANGER XP Kinetic comes standard with a 1-phase EVSE which allows you to charge from a 240V outlet alternatively a 3-phase (380V) outlet can provide peak charging with Polaris’ 3-phased WallBox EVSE accessory.

Can I make my electric UTV charge faster?

Yes. Depending on your charger, you can charge your electric UTV faster. The RANGER XP Kinetic is available in two trims, the Premium model and the Ultimate. The Premium trim contains a single 14.9 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers an estimated range of 45 miles with an onboard charging rate of 3kW, reaching full charge from 0% in 5 hours*. The Ultimate trim delivers 29.8 kWh of battery capacity and offers an estimated range of 80 miles, with an onboard charging rate of 6kW, reaching full charge in 10 hours*.

With the available accessory 3kW on-board charging system, rates can be boosted to 6kW for Premium and 9kW for Ultimate for up to 50% faster charge times. A 240V power supply is recommended for the fastest charging (standard in UK).

Can I drive my electric UTV in water?

The driving capabilities of electric UTVs can vary by model. The Polaris RANGER XP Kinetic, for example, is designed to withstand wet conditions such as rainfall, puddles and muddy terrain but you should never operate your electric UTV in deep, fast-flowing water or in a body of water that exceeds the floor level of the vehicle.

Does an electric UTV work in cold temperatures?

Much like a petrol or diesel UTV, an electric UTV such as the RANGER XP Kinetic has been designed to withstand freezing temperatures. Polaris recommends that you keep your vehicle plugged in for either a short period of time before or continuously to allow the vehicle to keep the batteries warm.

The batteries are also designed to warm up while not being charged, but there may be reduced performance for a short period until the batteries are warm. This is not dissimilar from a typical petrol or diesel vehicle.

Check out this video for how the RANGER XP Kinetic works in the cold.

Is an electric UTV the right choice for me?

Only you can answer this. The first thing to do is evaluate your daily mileage. On average, many don’t do over 20 miles a day and with Polaris’ quick and efficient charging, topping up the charge is easy. An electric vehicle could be slightly more expensive upfront than its counterparts, but cheaper to run in the long term, so riders should factor budget into their buying decision.. For many, an electric UTV is the right choice but knowing if an electric UTV is right for you is based on a case-by-case basis.
