Farming’s Fight for the Future
)
At the Norfolk Farming Conference, Farming Minister Daniel Zeichner made it clear: farming is not a top priority for government funding. His message? Farmers should not rely on government support but instead compete within a supply chain that continues to squeeze them financially.
But how can an industry facing rising costs, unpredictable weather patterns, and supply chain pressures operate without meaningful backing? How can British farmers compete on a global stage while shouldering the burden of government-led environmental targets without the necessary resources to achieve them?
The answer lies in coming together as a community, to innovate, to support one another, and to challenge the government to do better. And there’s no better place to do that than at the Low Carbon Agriculture Show 2025.
Zeichner’s comments reflect a growing sentiment that agriculture is being pushed aside in favour of other priorities. His blunt statement; “The Budget is as the Budget is”, suggests that farmers should expect no additional support, no matter the economic climate.
The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, was quick to respond, stating: “Farming is top of the agenda as far as I am concerned.” He pointed to the £5 billion in farm support included in the Budget and the recent Farming Roadmap, which the NFU described as “long overdue.”
But words are not enough. Without real policy action that protects farmers from unfair supply chains, ensures a stable return for their products, and provides adequate funding for sustainable transitions, British agriculture will continue to struggle.
Coming Together at the Low Carbon Agriculture Show 2025
Now more than ever, farmers must take control of their own futures, by learning, adapting, and working together to build profitable and sustainable businesses.
The Low Carbon Agriculture Show 2025 is the perfect opportunity to do just that. With an extensive conference programme, the show will bring together leading industry experts, policymakers, and farmers to tackle the most pressing issues in UK agriculture.
