My family have farmed in Cambridgeshire for over 150 years, and in that time they’ve faced all sorts of challenges and changing priorities within the industry. As a lawyer advising rural businesses, I am not sure my great-grandparents would recognise the 2025 landscape in which I operate. Today, a growing part of my work is negotiating renewable energy leases on farmland as an alternative source of income for landowners. As well as renewable energy projects, I advise on land development opportunities, farm sales and purchases, succession planning and business restructuring.
