In 2008, Xerogrid Director Ian Emberton bought a rural property in Spain as a base for his motorcycle racing business. After all, Spain is the motorcycle racing capital of the world! It was a large property, but without any connection to utilities such as gas, water, phone line and electricity. Gas came in bottles, water was delivered or collected, but electricity provision was from a petrol generator

Building a new independent solar power system became a €30,000 cost and planning headache. Ian persevered and developed his own off-grid, solar-powered system importing batteries and inverters from Outback Power. The first system was the envy of many local residents who wanted the same. Back in the UK, Ian found similar issues. For example, a farmer in York’s new build project was thwarted by a £68,000 connection grid fee. Ian installed a system for £30,000. Environmentally-friendly, and without ever-increasing bills.

Through these early projects, Ian formed Xerogrid. He began to build bespoke solar systems for customers in Spain, the UK. He also took on the challenges of exporting equipment and installing systems in Ghana. Here, Xerogrid installed the country’s largest privately owned off-grid system to run a fruit drinks factory, which soon won him the distributorship with Outback Power in the UK and Spain. Xerogrid now deliver turnkey solutions. We offer fixed price, eco friendly remote power generation where new grid connections or expansion in rural areas can often be unrealistic .

The recent energy crisis magnifies the issues and expense of grid connections up grades, restrictions to connecting solar and other renewable energy sources leading Xerogrid to seek a larger scale alternative , using batteries, and UK developed software to ensure energy security and independence.

Xerogrid had some creative ways to use solar , wind and storage , with out the need to pay the DNOs to up grade their creaking infrastructure , whilst allowing the full , cost effective deployment of sustainable , independent power generation .

Now, Xerogrid has galvanised links with several global reputable manufacturers of solar equipment.
