Jack Watts

Sustainability Group Lead, National Farmers Union

Jack leads a group of three teams covering the Environment, climate change and supply chain, which are responsible for delivering NFU’s policy work on a broad range of areas from water quality and flooding through to fairness in the supply chain. His personal area of interest is using data and evidence to champion the sustainability credentials of home-produced food as a point of difference to international competitors.

Jack was previously Head of Economics at AHDB after serving several roles in his first stint at NFU. This included supporting the industry response to the covid-19 pandemic and evidencing the impact of escalating energy prices on the agri-food sector due to the war in Ukraine.

Jack is from a farming background and takes an active interest in his father’s farm on the southern edge of the Exmoor National Park, which is home to a suckler beef herd. He has worked in the New Zealand dairy industry which was a source of enlightenment into simple yet productive production systems.
