Nick Spicer
Nick is a BA (Hons) Human Geography graduate from Leeds University, holding an LCGI in Leadership and Management, and a former infantry officer in the British Army, serving with the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellingtons). Nick has served on operations globally including commanding the last combat unit in Baghdad, Iraq in 2008 and left as a company commander.
Since leaving the military Nick has been working within the renewable energy industry; delivering multi megawatts of clean energy capacity in the UK along with international development projects overseas. He oversees advocacy work for TV on Channel 4, is an NEC level speaker on industry panels, and advises national banks and lenders on the renewable market.
Nick now runs Your Eco which has gained an enviable national reputation for the design, supply and installation of high quality solar PV and energy storage assets into infrastructure across a variety of sectors. This sees the business working on carbon reduction projects across private estates and for high end homes, through to projects across the agricultural and commercial space.
Further afield Nick and the business have delivered and overseen solar and hydro programmes in remote regions of the Himalayas in Nepal, along with rolling out off grid systems in support of the British Virgin Island’s Ministry for Health and Social Development, along with clean energy infrastructure design and build projects for Virgin within the Caribbean region.
As part of wider international development, Nick has been consulting to the head of Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the use of renewables in support of economic development to reduce conflict whilst overseeing the electrification of a orphanage for former child soldiers. Involved in an ex-military disaster response charity, Nick has lead on the development of innovative clean technology solutions in the form of off-grid clean energy systems through to water purification units for use in providing survivor impact in the most remote and challenging environments post natural disaster.
Nick was also the founder of Reduce Our Carbon, a charity delivering agroforestry programmes in Central America along with smokeless stoves to both offset carbon and meet with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. More info at www.reduceourcarbon.org
